School is back in session, and my youngest has been coming home sharing that first grade is hard work—much harder than kindergarten, with less hands-on help. He is naturally curious and quick to ask questions, so we’ve been discussing the best questions he can ask to get the help he needs. So much of our learning comes from asking questions. As Disciples of Christ, we believe that the questions we ask are just as meaningful as the answers we find.

This week, we begin a new sermon series titled “Good Question.” Drawing primarily from lectionary texts, we will explore topics such as “Is God fair?” and “Should my faith make me less anxious?” This fall, we invite you to approach scripture and faith with renewed curiosity. My hope is that exploring these questions together will foster deeper understanding—or at least spark even deeper questions.

Along with the start of the school year and this new series, we are launching our fall programming with opportunities for all ages. This weekend is packed with celebratory activities at First Christian, and I hope you will join us. I look forward to seeing you Saturday for the parking lot picnic at 6:30 PM and movie at 8:30 PM. Also, plan to stay after Sunday worship for a churchwide luncheon, the middle and high school youth group kickoff, and a parent information meeting with open gym time for children from birth through 5th grade. Sunday school classes are available for all age groups, so please explore the options and ask any questions you may have.

It is reassuring to know we are not alone in our wonder and uncertainty, and a true gift to share a community where we can be openly curious. Let’s explore life’s big questions together.

Weekly Prayer: God of the ages, in your steadfast presence, we take comfort. We praise you for staying with us through all things. As we pray, grant us relief from pain and encouragement in our struggles. Amen.

Hoping to be deliberate about our prayer life, we are updating our prayer list. People who are Friends of FCC will remain on the prayer list for one month and then we will rely on you to add them to the prayer list again if needed.

YOUTH KICKOFF

Youth will start back THIS WEEKEND! We will be using the BAND app for communication this year and the full Fall Schedule is available there. We’re excited for a great upcoming year full of opportunities to grow and explore our faith.

KIDSMIN KICKOFF

We’re kicking off a new season of Children’s Ministry this Saturday with our churchwide Picnic & Movie in the Parking Lot! Bring the family and join us for a fun evening together.

Then on Sunday, we’ll celebrate a new season in our worship rooms, followed by a churchwide luncheon and Parent Information Meeting. Grown ups, stick around after lunch to learn more about what’s ahead this fall! Childcare will be available in the gym for children birth–5th grade during the meeting.

We can’t wait to begin this new season together!

HELP NEEDED!

We desperately need a volunteer with an SUV, van, or truck to help pick up our food box orders from the Franklin County Food Pantry at 9:45 am on Thursday, September 17th, and deliver them to the church. COLLEGE CONTACT MINISTRY

The new school year has begun and once again, the College Contact Ministry would like to support our college students through prayer and monthly mailings (cards, goodie boxes, emails, texts, etc.) September 2026 through May 2027 with sponsors in our church.  Sponsors may be a church group or an individual.
