This year marks the 225th anniversary of a defining moment in our shared story of faith—the Cane Ridge Revival. In August of 1801, thousands gathered on the Kentucky frontier for what became one of the most significant religious movements in American history. People crossed lines that had long divided them—denominational, social, and cultural—and experienced a powerful sense of God’s presence together. That presence was so powerful that stories are told of people shouting, weeping, and even falling out in the Spirit—something that might raise a few eyebrows (and perhaps a few concerned glances) in our pews today. What emerged from Cane Ridge was a movement rooted in unity, humility, and a deep desire to follow Christ more faithfully.

Leaders like Barton W. Stone were shaped by that experience. Stone witnessed firsthand the ways rigid divisions in the church kept people apart, and he began to imagine a different way—a church not defined by creeds or boundaries, but by a shared commitment to Christ. Around the same time, Alexander Campbell was also wrestling with similar concerns, longing for a faith that returned to the simplicity of the gospel. Though they came from different places, both men found themselves drawn toward a vision of Christian unity that would give rise to what we now know as the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

The revival at Cane Ridge was experienced as a great communion in which barriers fell away and people gathered not because they agreed on everything, but because they believed Christ had already made them one. That vision still shapes us. It reminds us that our roots are not about deciding who belongs and who does not, but about inviting people into a new way of living out faith together—centered in grace, grounded in love, and open to all.

As we celebrate this 225th anniversary, we are invited to remember those roots and consider what they mean for us today. How might we continue the work of unity in our own time? How might we embody a faith that resists easy divisions and instead makes room at the table?

Hoping to be deliberate about our prayer life, we are updating our prayer list. People who are Friends of FCC will remain on the prayer list for one month and then we will rely on you to add them to the prayer list again if needed.

TRAFFIC & PARKING ALERT

The City of Frankfort will begin a major sewer and utility repair project Monday, August 10th that will affect traffic patterns on Ann St. and Broadway for the next three weeks. We will be posting links to that information so you can plan accordingly for your church visit. 

JOIN US!

If you enjoy singing or even just spending time with a fun group - join us! The choir meets every Wednesday in the Sanctuary. We rehearse from six until seven-ish. This is a great time to join, as we begin looking at our music for the rest of the year including Christmas. See you there!

FALL FLING

It will soon be fall, and we are planning the November 4 Fall Fling.  There will be a Yard Sale, Gourmet Table and Chili Luncheon.

Please start looking for clean, gently used items in  working condition for the Yard Sale. Please no clothes, shoes or books.  Jewelry and handbags are fine.  You can place your items in the DWM Room on the 3rd floor. 

We will also need volunteers for working the day of the Fling, early sorting, set-up, take-down, collecting money, etc.

DISCIPLE WOMEN’S MINISTRY LOVE GIFTS

Disciple Women’s Ministry Love Gifts are available to FCC attendees pursuing education beyond high school. These gifts are made possible through the DWM’s Annual Fundraiser and are offered as a way for our church family to support your educational journey.

This is not a scholarship—it's a love gift. If you're continuing your education after high school, simply ask to receive one!

SUPPORTING SPELLAPALOOZA

Our church has always been very supportive of Thorn Hill Education Center.  Spellapalooza is their major fund raiser, needed more than ever now. Funding has gone down yearly, taking an even bigger hit this year. Though we are not registering a team this year, please contribute items to the bake sale.  Chocolate chip cookies, brownies or a favorite of yours helps to make the bake sale very popular. Please Bee there for a fun evening, August 7, with hamburgers available at 5pm for a donation and the Spelling Bee starting at 6pm.
